One wedding, one MC, five bands & a DJ: This must have been the most entertaining wedding in 2015! It was clear right from the start that Marina & Derrick's farm-styled country wedding was going to be all about having fun when I was told that there would be 5 bands entertaining the +100 guests.
The theme was about everything the couple loves including their favorite foods and music.
On arrival we were greeted by the gentle sounds of a French / Mediterranean music ensemble (Ooh La La) led by Matthew Reid - setting the scene for the upcoming nuptials inside the beautiful 401 Rozendal in the Stellenbosch Winelands.
After the heart-warming wedding ceremony with officiant Francois Cillie, guests were given the chance to meet and greet with a cocktail or two in the beautifully decorated gardens (Exclusive Hire).
The experienced event and wedding coordinator Jay Jacobs from Funktionality who also acted as MC of the day welcomed the newly weds and also introduced the Ike Moriz Quintet who then took the stage to entertain the wedding party in the early hours of the evening with hits like the upbeat "My Baby Just Cares For Me", the latin classic "Besame Mucho", the French toe-tapper "C'est Si Bon" and a smooth and bluesy "Georgia On My Mind" (see video medley below)
Short of a full big band this is the largest Top Wedding Singer ensemble entertaining at events and marriage celebrations.
It was also the largest band of the day consisting of Ike Moriz (on the 'Elvis mic') with his legendary top session musician quintet: Willie van Zyl (Navy big band leader: sax & clarinet), Amanda Tiffin (piano), Alvin Dyers (guitar), Valentino Europa on double bass and Ivan Bell on drums.
The audience was quickly uplifted from toe-tapping to dancing while the friendly staff of Rozendal served delicious snacks from the mediterranean at food stations with European city themes (The Tasting Room, Le Quartier Francais, Margot Janse, Neil Jewell, Verve Caterers, Kerry Bee/The Drinkery). The sound engineering team from Enterstage provided fantastic sound!
The fabulous DJ Miss Creamer then continued to entertain together with Top Wedding Singer saxophonist Willie van Zyl to lead into the next band performance by Cape Town pop singers Blackbyrd.
Wedding photographer on the day was Greg Lumley.
